Gegen Berlin
Branding, identity, art direction

“Gegen” is a complex word in German because it has two opposite meanings.

Therefore, the aim was to create a bold and vibrant logo that included the concepts of “against” and “around”. The chevrons >< assist in visualizing those concepts and can also be used as a standalone symbol.

With a fresh new take on the iconic Gegen party / label / showcase / podcast / community, I’ve created a multi-purpose-built identity for the digital world’s demands. Yet, at the same time, staying true to the ten years of party history and heritage of the community.

What is Gegen?
Gegen is a well-known event series that takes place in Berlin, Germany, mainly at KitKatClub and RSO for more than ten years.
It stands for its open and inclusive atmosphere and for attracting a diverse crowd of people from all walks of life.
The party is respected for its high-energy atmosphere and features various music genres, including techno, house, electro and performances. It is also acclaimed for its commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.
Gegen not only wishes to design a party just to give its guests a safe space and protection, but it’s also not selling the possibility of being “queer” for one night. Instead, Gegen wants to expose their guests to their fears and pleasures by pushing them to understand how their power mechanisms are produced.
